Vegan Roadtrip in Wales: Best Plant-Based Pubs & Cafés

Found a vegan pub in Wales - happy faces!
Found a vegan pub in Wales - happy faces!

Think Wales is all meat pies and full English breakfasts? Think again. Here's how we found incredible vegan food across pubs, beaches, and villages on our UK adventure.

Being Vegan on a Wales Roadtrip – A Surprisingly Delicious Experience

We’ll be honest – we didn’t have high hopes. When you think of classic British cuisine, it’s usually all about bangers and mash, fish and chips, full English breakfasts with sausages, bacon, and maybe even black pudding. Not exactly vegan paradise.

Benzino was thrilled either way – he could live on chips with salt and vinegar (and basically did for several days). But we were pleasantly surprised by how many pubs, cafés, and hidden gems had proper vegan options – and we don’t mean just a side salad.

Here are some of our favourite vegan-friendly finds across Wales:

The Queen's Inn, Brecon A fully vegan pub? Yes, really. The Queen’s Inn impressed us right off the ferry – a 100% plant-based menu served in classic pub fashion. Think comfort food without compromise. With rave reviews online for both food and atmosphere, it was the perfect place to kick off our culinary adventure.

🏆 The Three Horseshoes, Llanfrynach This one took us by surprise. Nestled in the Brecon Beacons, this pub not only had vegan options – it had fantastic vegan options. Beautiful plating, thoughtful ingredients, and flavours that had us wondering if we’d stumbled into a fine dining spot disguised as a countryside inn. Highly recommended.

☕️ Ground Coffee Shop, Swansea On the way west, we stopped in Swansea and were on the hunt for a full English – vegan style. Ground Coffee Shop delivered the goods: tofu scramble, plant-based sausage, beans, hash browns, and oat milk cappuccinos. All the vibes, none of the meat.

🌿 Secret Garden, Newport Possibly the most romantic dinner of the trip. Secret Garden offers cozy private huts lit with fairy lights, and a seasonal vegan menu that was bursting with flavour. If you’re in Newport, this one’s a must – not just for the food, but for the whole magical setting.

🌱 Foxglove, Barmouth A tiny restaurant with a big reputation. Foxglove serves a five-course Welsh-Japanese tasting menu that’s 100% vegan, organic, and unforgettable. Every dish felt like a little work of art. Bonus points for the doggy bed provided for Pepe and the chef’s table-side cuddle. And thanks to a tip from the chef, we skipped Mount Snowdon and went for a quieter (and windier) mountain instead.
