Why Uganda? Our Next Big Adventure Begins.

Updated: Jun 28

Some trips start with a bucket list. This one started with a promise.

When we planned our Africa Overland adventure with our Land Rover Defender, there were a few absolute must-dos. At the very top? Trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda. We even had the route mapped — red dirt roads, green jungle, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest at the end of it all.

But things don’t always go to plan (find out why). And even though we had an incredible journey, something about Uganda stuck with us. A bit of unfinished business, if you will.

Now, we’re finally going — not with the Defender this time, but with even more curiosity and excitement. To stay true to our adventurous nature, we will get ourselves an old Toyota Land Cruiser - yes, again no A/C, and cruise through the country.

So, what are we hoping for on this trip?

Trek to the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – one of the last wild places on Earth where you can meet these gentle giants face to face.

Spot chimpanzees in the tropical rainforests of Kibale – and try to keep up with their jungle chatter.

Go full safari mode with self-drive wildlife adventures through Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth National Park – think zebras, elephants, and maybe even a lion or two.

Meet vegan friends at the Zwina Rhino Sanctuary – we hear it’s possible, and we’re ready to investigate.

Stand at the Equator, try the Coriolis effect trick, and get that classic photo every tourist secretly loves.

Whitewater raft the Nile in Jinja – because nothing says "relaxing holiday" like being tossed around in class 5 rapids.

Feel the energy of Kampala, Uganda’s loud, chaotic, colorful capital – and dive headfirst into the madness.

We’ve been told Uganda is Africa in one country – rainforests, savannahs, crater lakes, friendly chaos, and unforgettable wildlife, all packed into a place that still flies a bit under the radar. And we love that.

This trip is about chasing a dream we didn’t finish the first time. It’s about wild places, good people, and probably getting stuck in the mud at least once.

Uganda, let’s do this. We’re finally coming.
